Compact solar home

Designers over at System Design Studio have designed a new prefab home, which with its abilities and self-sufficiency might transform our knowledge of a “modular home”. The basic concept of the home consists of a module, which meets the daily living needs of an ordinary household. The basic living space has three standalone units – bathroom, kitchen and storage. The rest of the space can be used to add more modules that can be used as living rooms, children’s rooms and bedrooms.

The units can be moved by means of a rail system, which enables the owners to modify their home in anyway they like to. Additional modules can be added vertically and horizontally to the basic module allowing the owners to resize their home according to their needs. The home has been designed around an array of solar modules that generate enough electricity to illuminate the interiors with LED lights. Rainwater is collected via an adapted system on the roof, which captures and processes rainwater for non-potable uses. Overall it makes sure that you don’t pollute the environment by constructing your dream house and also promises that you won’t have to pay a single cent in electricity bills all through your life.

The design seems practical, but with all that technology in place we’re not sure if the actual house will be affordable. Moreover, since the modules are movable, the integrity of the house in case of a storm is questionable.
